Car Insurance Fraud: What to Look Out for
There is a worrying trend increasing in the North of England at the moment. Cities in the North of England are falling victim to the deceptive practice of car insurance fraud. In the past car insurance fraud was trying to claim damages in an accident that were incurred prior to the accident, sort of killing two birds with one stone. Not only did this practice cheat people and insurers out of money but also had a knock on effect on car insurance premiums.
Insurance Fraud dates back all the way to Ancient Greece where people used to purposely sink ships, it then spread to England and North America. With the arrival of the car, car insurance fraud has become a worryingly large problem for many authorities and makes insurer’s jobs harder to decide whether a claim is legitimate and can delay pay outs for legitimate claims.
The trouble is that Car Insurance fraud has evolved and is now even more sneaky and life-threatening. Some reckless drivers will pull out in front of innocent motorists and brake hard, causing the driver behind to invariably crash into the car in front and require an insurance claim. This is a very dangerous practice as it can cause serious injuries or even death for the unwitting drivers who fall victim to this scheme. The practice has even developed a subculture of people willing to arrange a crash with similar people and they even signal this fact to each other by tying a black ribbon to their cars!
Blackburn and Bradford have been named as problem areas home to high numbers of instances of car insurance fraud. In Cheadle-Hulme, south of Manchester, there were sections of the A34 bypass that motorists and businesses operating nearby were warned about as there were fraudsters who had cars containing small children and family members all packed into a car which had its brake light bulbs removed. There were a spate of reports that these drivers were braking suddenly near roundabouts and getting into car collisions.
To further the windfall these people then go on to claim personal injuries such as whiplash. These despicable actions do nothing but punish the innocent sensible drivers and can put them in danger too in cases like those mentioned previously. It’s practices like these that increase car insurance premiums for everyone just as much as uninsured drivers. So be careful when on the road and always keep a safe distance from the vehicle in front.
