Catback exhaust whats that
Cat-back exhaust – what’s that?
If you are familiar with how an engine works then you will know that a key part is getting rid of the exhaust gases quickly and efficiently. This is because till the exhaust gases have not entirely left the combustion cylinder, the next lot of fuel cannot be injected into it. The next lot of fuel therefore must push out the remaining exhaust gases. This resistance that the fuel air mixture faces as it enters the combustion cylinder is the back pressure.
The more the back pressure, the more is the energy required to overcome it and therefore the less is the energy available to drive the car. Now the exhaust gases would leave quickly but they can’t just be ejected straight out of the combustion cylinder. They have to be carried till where the designated place for the exhaust pipe is, they have to be treated in a catalytic converter and the noise they make on expanding suddenly has to be muffled.
Performance headers help carry the gases efficiently till the catalytic converter. Beyond that a cat-back exhaust does the remaining work more efficiently than the system in a stock car. It has a larger diameter pipe to carry the gases faster. The bends that are necessary to reach the gases to the exhaust point are specially designed so that the gases flow through the bends without increasing the back pressure. It also has a more efficient silencer. A silencer is a part where the gases are allowed to expand slowly so that they do now make a loud noise.
In cat-back exhaust this slow expansion is achieved without requiring the gases to change their direction of flow. For example in a glasspack packed fiberglass surrounds the exhaust gases and absorbs the some of the sound. This is a simple and inexpensive technology, there are more sophisticated and expensive technologies on offer as well.
If you are also conscious of the looks of your car and have installed products such as car body kits then a custom exhaust pipe tip adds a nice touch to the looks of your car. You can know more about car aftermarket products at www.ilovebodykits.com.
