Corvette Performance Parts
To the normal eye the Corvette does not fit in the category of needing more power or extra performance, to the car enthusiast there never is enough power and you could never get too much performance. Whether you are in the first category or the second you found your way here so you must be looking for some sort of upgrade. And since all us of have different capabilities as far as being mechanics we are going to focus on the not so difficult to install performance parts for the corvette. Just because a part is going to increase power does not mean that it is going to take a professional to install it. Or maybe you would like to think that you are a professional. After any of these upgrades you may feel like you are one. Bolt on upgrades.
Starting in the front and working our way back. The first bolt on upgrade starts under the hood. It is a cold air intake system. I have installed these and if I can do it anyone can. It will take about 30 minutes depending on your understanding of the instructions but most instructions come full with step by step pictures. The great thing about cold air intake systems is that they are really easy to install and for the ease, you get a lot out of it. Expecting an extra 25 horses is not out of the question with around 30 ft/lbs of torque as well. The way these systems create more power for the Corvette is by increasing the air flow to the engine. Engines need to breathe just like any of us and when the engine doesn’t get the maximum amount of air it isn’t running to the fullest of its ability. They can also increase your gas mileage by a couple miles per gallon while driving conservatively.
Moving under the dash there is about a five to ten minute install of a performance chip or tuner. With these you won’t even need to lift a single tool. They just plug in under the dash in the OBD-II diagnostic port. Once it is plugged into the OBD-II diagnostic port, the full on screen instructions will run you through the download of the new performance programming. Simply unplug it after the installation is complete, and get out for a drive. Generally gains of 25+ hp at the rear wheels and 25+ extra ft/lbs of torque can be expected, if you have the Z06 that comes standard with more power, you can expect to gain even more. Like the air intakes these will improve gas mileage too as long as there isn’t a race going on.
Now let’s move onto the really fun stuff. Underneath the Corvette doesn’t get seen all that often but if you follow all those pipes to the back the beauty of exhaust tips should be seen. Installing an exhaust system will be a little more time consuming and more difficult but well worth the work. Exhaust systems work in line with the other two but don’t have to go together. They will improve hp, torque and miles per gallon. The best thing about any of these systems is the sound that comes with them and the new look. Whether you are the car enthusiast or the guy who just wanted to buy a Corvette you will all enjoy the beautiful sound that a performance exhaust will produce. They will transform any Corvette from just an everyday car to an every minute car. It will let everyone know you are coming.
