Driving a Hard Bargain: How to Make the Most of your Car Insurance

The invention of the car brought more than speedy travel. It brought freedom to people, enabling them to go wherever they wanted, whenever they wanted, without the inherent restrictions of public transport.
Indeed, prior to private motor transport, there were other forms of transport such as horse and cart and trains, but neither offered the convenience of travelling a self-chosen route which explains why there are now over thirty million cars on UK roads alone.
The costs attached to running and maintaining a car can put people off. There’s fuel, road tax, MOTs, car insurance and possible parking costs to contend with, but the benefits of owning a car far outweigh any of the downsides.
Furthermore, with the advent of the internet era, the car-driving consumer now has more power than ever before as they can research and compare prices for just about anything to do with their automobile, ensuring that they can readily identify not only the best price for the car itself, but for related costs such as maintenance.
Car insurance too can be researched online and the difference in price between car insurance providers can be staggering. However, the price alone isn’t the most important factor, and it’s essential that the small print is perused for details on what exactly is included in the price.
The very minimal level of car insurance required by law is Third Party. This means that if damage or injury is caused to another vehicle and its driver, then adequate protection is in place. However, it may be worth taking this a stage further and opting for Third Party Fire and Theft car insurance instead, which not only covers damage caused to other cars, but the person’s insurer will also provide cover should their own car be stolen or damaged by fire.
This still may not be enough though. For those who’ve spent quite a bit of money on their car then it may be worth paying a little bit extra to cover every conceivable eventuality. Comprehensive car insurance covers accidental damage and injury caused to all parties involved in a collision, meaning that nobody is left out of pocket should an unfortunate incident occur.
There are other factors worth considering when requesting a car insurance quote, such as is a temporary car replacement service offered? Does the insurance cover travel within Europe? Are legal expenses included?
The extent of the car insurance will obviously affect the price, but through requesting a number of different quotes with the same inclusions, it will soon become apparent that prices aren’t standard across the industry, and what a person pays will depend very much on the level of research they carry out.
