Facial recognition for driving licences
Facial Recognition For Driving Licences
With new technology being developed daily, its no wonder that authorities are coming up with a device to stop banned drivers getting licences under assumed names. This is already being demonstrated in Australia, where when drivers apply for licences, they have their picture taken, and three vital notes are made. The device measures three distances; the space between the eyes, nose and mouth. This doesn’t have much effect ion the licence itself, but when the image is run through the database, it will check to see if someone already exists with these measurements, and make sure it is not the same person, applying on a fraudulent basis. The technology does however require that you do not smile when the image is being saved. According to the creators, a smile adds a much greater distance to these measurements, and can cause the same person to be mismatched when comparing.
The device will also help to combat the ever increasing dilemma of identity fraud. Some human rights campaigners are againstthe idea of photo Ids, as they feel it is infringing on our human rights, but this could save our country millions on fraud ion a yearly basis.
Picture the scene, you are having dinner one night and the police turn up to accuse you of your participation in a car accident. They have got our information through their database, as the car is registered, and the Car Insurance purchased under your name, someone has fraudulently set up these accounts and is using your identity. With the implementation of new technology, this horrible occurrence which goes on daily could be dramatically reduced. Sounds worth a try..
