Cheap or tailored car mats

Cheap or Tailored Car Mats?

Q: I’m looking for rubber car mats online to go in my VW Golf. The cheap standard car mats cost only ?5 but tailored car mats cost almost 10 times as much! I’m now slightly worried about getting the really cheap ones. What’s wrong with them? What’s so special about tailored car mats? Is it worth it?
A: Firstly, well done for doing the research. It is always good to get a good deal but you want to know if it is truly worth it. Unfortunately, from my experience, the deal really is too good to be true.
Universal car mats can be bought very cheaply from a number of familiar retailers. They fit all car makes and models. But bought that cheaply you’ll find that their condition very quickly deteriorates. Universal car mats tend to slip and slide around under your feet. After buying some cheap car mats, every time I got into my car I had to rearrange them. This is not only a complete nuisance, but it is also potentially dangerous. If your car mats slide forward they can cause pedal entrapment; you can lose control over the brake or accelerator. There are some DIY things you can do to secure them, such as using Velcro, but this cannot guarantee safety, and it can end up looking messy.
Tailored car mats are definitely a better option. You can still look around for the best deal but consider that the better the quality the less frequently you’ll have to replace them. Some tailored car mat manufacturers provide fittings to properly secure them into place. This is ideal.
It can seem like a lot of money to spend at once on rubber car mats. But consider what you need them for. If you are looking to properly protect the carpet underneath from dirt and moisture then only tailored car mats will do a proper job. Water can still seep around unfitted car mats.
Buying really cheap car mats is a false economy that can also potentially be very dangerous. Weigh up your options before you make a decision.

3 Ways To Save Money At Police Seized Car Auctions

Saving money at at police seized car auction isn’t all that hard. You just go to one in your area and bid on the car you want to buy… you save money by just going to one period. 1. Get there early. By arriving at the auction early, you will have the upper hand when it comes bidding time. You’ll have had plenty of time to inspect each and every car that catches your eye, in addition to knowing which cars everybody else is interested in buying. Remember that the cars that get the most attention will usually cost the most. So, you can save a huge amount of money by bidding on the car that nobody else seemed to notice. It could be something as small as the color that kept most people away, which can always be taken care of.
2. Bring a Kelly’s Blue Book. Would you go to a car dealership without knowing how much a car is actually worth? The same goes for police seized car auctions. You always want to know the value of the car before you bid so you don’t let your emotions get the best of you. Bidding wars are common and often result in paying more than the car is really worth.
3. Be choosy. Just like bidding on cars that are not that popular, you also want to go to auctions that everybody doesn’t know about. Not only will you get lower prices, they also tend to have better cars. You can find exclusive car auctions near you by joining a car auction listing service. They charge you a membership fee to keep the site up and the listings exclusive, but it’s well worth the money.
So, when attending your next police seized car auction just remember to arrive early to an auction that isn’t publicly advertised with your Kelly Blue Book in hand and you’ll be well on your way to saving a couple extra bucks. Parking issues

The parking situation at my apartment complex is usually pretty horrible after five o’clock in the afternoon/evening. This is a time when most people are getting home from work and are looking to park their cars so that they can run inside to eat and relax. It seems as if everywhere you go, though, there is always an issue with parking.
When I was in the police department, they always trained us to back into a space first with the reason being that we would be able to pull out of the parking space right away in case a 9-1-1 call went out. However, most people pull into a parking space head first (because it is easier). Countless times, I have now witnessed numerous car accidents in parking lots. The most recent accident that I can recall involved someone who saw a pull-through parking space and drove through it fairly quickly. At the same time, another person was pulling into that space to park. The end result? Both cars were involved in a small head-on collision via parking space.
It can be frustrating to park your car in a parking lot because this is when you encounter some of the worst drivers out there! From those with kids who are too busy looking in their rearview mirrors or are turned around to see what their kids are doing to those who may be visiting from another country and are still unfamiliar with driving in the states to those who are simply distracted because they aren’t paying attention. This is when our defensive driving skills are really put to the test. What makes matters even more challenging is the fact that when you are in a parking lot, you are in an enclosed space- a space in which you have to really know how to navigate the area in order to avoid near-misses with runaway children, groceries and shopping carts.
One of the common misconceptions about using a parking lot is who has the right of way. As most of us are already aware, pedestrians always have the right of way no matter what. And when you are driving through a parking lot of a store or supermarket, if you see a pedestrian come out of a store and head for the street that you’re driving on, you have to stop. Granted, there are certainly those out there who could care less and who go on about their business, but stopping is the right thing to do. Additionally, whenever you are driving through the parking lot looking for a parking space and you happen to see another vehicle backing out of a parking space, look to see that the driver has made eye contact with you or is acknowledging your presence before continuing. Unbeknown to many drivers is the fact that those who are backing out of a parking space do not have the right of way ever. The only slight modification to this rule is when you are driving through a parking lot and you want to take the parking space that a person is backing out of.

How are windscreens repaired

How Are Windscreens Repaired?

If you have been driving for some time you will no doubt have had some damage to your windscreen. It’s very easy for a loose stone or piece of gravel to fly up from the road and chip the screen.

It’s also very easy to leave it and not bother to get it repaired. It pays to get it seen to as quickly as possible, because the whole screen could be compromised if you don’t.

The main thing to be aware of is that a tiny and seemingly inconspicuous chip can develop into a crack. The only way to avoid the chance of this happening is to get the chip repaired before it can develop into something worse and it is much easier and cheaper to have a chip repaired than to pay for a new windscreen. Even if you are covered by your insurance policy you will still need to pay the excess to get it done.

The actual process of having a chip repaired is relatively simple. In fact you will sometimes see the service being offered in supermarket car parks. This just goes to show that your chip will be repaired in less than the time it takes you to do your shopping!

As with any type of repair, making sure that the area of the chip is clean is the most important thing to do initially. If any shards of glass remain in the chip, the repair will not be as strong as it should be.

Once the chip is clean and ready to be treated, a special piece of equipment is used to get rid of all the air around the location of the chip. The equipment stays in place and is then used to inject resin into the chip. This will essentially take the place of the glass that has been damaged, to make the windscreen strong again.

Of course it isn’t enough to leave it like that. The initial application of the resin is not neat enough to finish the process there and then. Another stage is required to render the repair complete.

This involves setting the resin under a UV light. The resin will remain mouldable and pliable until this is done, and once it is it will be just as strong as the rest of the windscreen. A quick polish will ensure the resin is smooth and neat, and the repair will not show. More to the point, the chip will have been filled and prevented from turning into a crack that could ruin the entire screen.

It is clear to see that windscreen repair is not something to be taken lightly. You should attend to any minor damage like this as quickly as possible, because doing so means that it will not turn into major damage.
