Check oil level
You should check your car’s oil level after driving and allowing the car to cool.  Your car has a dipstick which if you clean it off first when dipped back in it should give you an indication of the oil level. There are normally two notches on the stick which your oil level should be between. If the actual level is below both notches then your engine will need more oil pouring in.

Check your lights
This task is easiest with another person available to assist you, basically you want to test all your lights as they are important signals to other road users and in the case of headlights and fog lights they are important to make sure you can see at night. If someone else isn’t available to help then many of the lights can be tested without you needing to be in the car so you can get out and look, for brake light checks back your car to a nearby wall or garage door. When you press the brake pedal you should see the reflection/glare of your brake lights.
If you can’t see the reflection then you should get replacement bulbs immediately. It’s incredibly dangerous and illegal if your brake lights no longer work properly.
Driving sensibly
It is amazing how much longer your car will last if you drive sensibly and not drive erratically.  The main way to do this is by accelerating slowly and braking early. Accelerating slowly will cut down on the fuel burnt up and put less strain on the engine, braking early will mean you are less likely to need to hammer on the brakes at the last minute. Your suspension will last longer if you go slowly over speed bumps and round corners too.
By braking early you are less likely to skid, losing tyre grip, and wearing down brake pads.
Lower your speed
Many drivers have found that by driving over 60mph can increase your petrol consumption significantly, tests have shown that those who drive at 60mph or less have travelled more miles between refuelling than those who drive over 60mph. As well as saving you money on fuel driving under 60mph should also help you avoid fines too as there is a chance if you’re burning through petrol over 60mph then there’s a chance you’re breaking the speed limit anyway!
